4 Simple and Historic Casino Games Still Widely Played Today

The age of technology has provided us with pretty much any game you can imagine. Modern gaming has brought us games with hyper-realistic worlds and even galaxies for people to explore but that doesn’t necessarily mean they are better. Simple concepts are sometimes the absolute best way to play. One of the reasons for this is how easy they are to get the hang of. There are many games with simple rules but virtually infinite possibilities – think of a game like chess. It isn’t complex to understand the basic rules but the advanced players have a huge level of knowledge. It seems silly to call chess simple but in concept it really is!

Slot Games

In terms of user input, these really are some of the simplest games out there. Slot games were originally played on physical machines and some people thought that these might not be so popular when the internet came along. The age of slots was really just starting out and slot casino games created a new way for people to play. Instead of relying on physical machines with reels that spun, people could now play using a digital representation.

Slot games now have more themes and ideas than ever before due to the fact that they are digital. No factory is involved in building the actual machines and developers are making new games all the time.

In terms of the simplicity of the gameplay, slots just involve players entering a stake and hitting the spin button. This is a nod to the fact the reels would once actually spin around and land on a symbol. The symbols are digital and much more varied now, but the slot games out there are so simple to follow. It is about luck and people don’t need to know any strategies to play the game.

Craps

Craps is as simple as games come really – it is a dice game which means there are only so many possibilities. It boils down to rolling two dice and betting on what numbers will show up. It has roots tracing back to an old English game called Hazard and Craps found its stride in the United States when casino games became very popular. It is now one of the most popular dice games. The US gambling industry is still growing at a fast rate and is predicted to continue to do so.

Craps is about luck with the dice though strategies for betting can come into play if a player wants to. Beginners usually stick to betting on the pass line – a wager that wins if the shooter rolls a 7 or 11 and loses with a 2, 3, or 12. That simplicity makes it easy to pick up while the rapid-fire nature of the game may keep players engaged. A few paragraphs can explain the basics of Craps and people may be able to start playing in minutes.

Roulette

Roulette is another simple game with a huge following. Players place bets on where a small ball will land after spinning around a wheel divided into numbered slots. Bets can be as straightforward as guessing red or black or as specific as picking a single number and this is why the comparison with slots is often made – no strategy or tactical thinking is required.

Roulette came from Europe and has been played for hundreds of years (there is debate regarding the exact origin). The rules are basic but many casinos offer these kinds of games and roulette has become a staple. There are even different variations of this game that people may play for a change!

Backgammon

Backgammon is one of the oldest board games still around and is played in bars and coffee shops everywhere – its origins date back over 5,000 years! It’s played on a board featuring 24 triangular points with players moving their pieces based on rolls of two dice. The goal is straightforward – players try to move all their checkers off the board before their opponent does.

What keeps Backgammon relevant is its blend of chance and tactics. While the dice rolls are random and have an element of unpredictability, experienced players develop skills and know which moves are most efficient.

Backgammon’s rules are simple enough for newcomers to learn quickly and start to learn the basics. Like some other games that have simple rules (like chess), this is a game with an incredible number of outcomes so it is replayable in spite of being basic.

Conclusion

Simplicity has a way of cutting through a world where there are so many different games available to players. Good games can have really simple premises and still be appealing. They survive in a world of VR and game technology that is growing all the time and people still enjoy the history and simplicity of games like Craps.
